What is a Food tour?

During your tour you will visit locally owned & operated restaurants, bars and specialty food shops. Where you’ll be able to meet the chefs / owners at each establishment and learn more about the buildings they are in, the food they serve and what motivated them to get started in the business and enjoy a tapas sized portion at each stop. Between each stop you’ll learn about the area and history that makes it so special. So we combine delicious food and local history in a unique and engaging way that you’re sure to remember.

How much does a food tour cost?

Depending on the tour ticket prices are $30.00 to $60.00. This includes a guided tour, tapas portion tasting or beverage at each stop and the opportunity to meet the chef or owner when they are available.

Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?

Yes, there are a limited number of spaces available on each tour, In order to get your preferred tour date and time you should purchase your ticket as early as possible. Cash can be accepted with special arrangements.

What should I wear?

Please remember you will be walking two to three miles during the tour. The most important thing to wear is comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather and if in doubt bring an umbrella or a coat in the cooler months. 

Are Tour De Food tours fun for locals?

Absolutely! On our tours you will have the opportunity to meet the owners / chefs and learn new things about each restaurant and learn about the history of the area. It's also a great way to entertain your visiting guests! What better way to show off your city than to take them for a taste of it?

How much food is served on the tour?

You can expect tapas size portions at 5 to 6 stops, which is usually enough food for most guests. Lunch is usually not necessary.

What if it's raining or snowing?

The tours are held rain or shine so please check weather conditions and dress appropriately. Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled. In rare cases where there are severe weather conditions we reserve the right to cancel the tour. If this occurs, we will refund your tickets or reschedule your tour.

Are adult beverages served on the tour?

Each tour includes one stop where they will offer one of the following options selected by the restaurant; Champagne, Wine, Beer or Cocktail. Guests are more than welcome to purchase additional beverages if they desire. Proper ID is required to comply with NC liquor laws.

Do you accommodate dietary restrictions and vegetarians?

Yes, please list all allergies and dietary restrictions when you purchase your tickets and we will pass the information along to the restaurants, they will accommodate you to the best of their ability. There will be many vegetarian options along the way although one or two places will have limited options for you.

Are bathrooms available on the tour?

Yes, there are numerous opportunities to use the restroom.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Children are welcomed on our tours! Please keep in mind the tours are 3-4 hours long and involve a 2 to 3 miles of walking, standing and listening. If children intend on eating and participating in the tour, please purchase a ticket for them. Due to all portions being the same, at this time we do not offer a discount for children.

Can I book a private tour?

We would love to book a private tour for you on a regular Saturday tour or another day of the week. They are great for birthday parties, bridal showers, anniversaries, corporate events and team building days. Please call us at 336-406-6294 in advance.

Are gift certificates available?

Yes, our Gift Certificates are great wedding, anniversary, birthday, Mother's day, Father's day, graduation, teacher appreciation gift or just to cheer someone up.

Can I take photos?

As long as the establishments allow it, we love and encourage it! Please be courteous of other tour participants if you plan on publishing your photos.

How often are tours held?

We offer tours throughout the week year round. Please check our tour schedule for specific tour availability. If you don’t see your ideal date listed and have a group of eight or more we can arrange a private tour for you, just call us for more details. 336-406-6294.

Is there parking near the starting point?

Yes, there is ample parking available at all tour starting points. Please refer to your ticket confirmation email for tour specific parking options.

Does the tour end at the same place we meet?

The tour ends near the starting point. Maps and/or a return walk are available.

Is Gratuity included?

Gratuities are not necessary for the restaurants & their staff; it is all included in your price. Although it is never expected, if you would like to tip your tour guide it is always appreciated. Standard gratuity in the service industry is 18%. Another way to show your appreciation is by writing a review on Trip Advisor or Yelp. You can also join in the conversation on Facebook and Twitter.

Is the tour wheelchair or stroller accessible?

Yes, we can accommodate strollers and wheelchairs; please let us know if you plan on bringing one so we can let our tour guides and restaurants know.

What else should I know?

Tour De Food acts only as an agent for the companies that supply food and beverages on the tours and cannot be held responsible for losses, accidents, injuries, or delays caused by persons engaged in carrying out the services provided by the tour. Photos and/or video may be taken on the tour… please let us know if you would prefer not to be photographed and/or filmed.
